Browns Foundation Launches Scholarship Program & Honors Browns Legend
09.15.2005
Through the Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship Fund, kids in Northeast Ohio will be able to pursue their dream of getting a college education and possibly even pursuing a career in sports. This new scholarship will help young people get a jump start in the sports industry. It is our hope that the scholarship recipients will one day be contributing to the success of the Browns organization!
The Cleveland Browns Foundation recently established the Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship Fund through a partnership with Cleveland Scholarship Programs, Inc. The scholarship will provide financial assistance for Northeast Ohio students who are interested in going to college. Recipients will receive assistance for all four years of their college career. In addition, scholarship finalists will be offered paid summer internships within the Browns organization. Because serving our community is an important part of the Cleveland Browns, scholarship applicants must demonstrate a commitment to and a continued involvement in their community.
As its name states, the Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship Fund also acknowledges one of Cleveland Browns legends and NFL Hall of Famers, Marion Motley. Motley was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 for his abilities on the field as a rusher and blocker. More importantly, Motley earned a place in history as one of four African-American players to break through race barriers in professional football. In 1946, he earned a roster spot with the Cleveland Browns, which was part of the All-America Football Conference, becoming one of the first African-Americans in the sport. To recognize and honor Marion Motley, scholarship applicants will be asked to research his life and career and provide insight on how he impacted the Cleveland Browns and the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship Fund is made possible through a partnership with Cleveland Scholarship Programs, Inc. Cleveland Scholarship Programs (CSP) provides educational opportunity and supports workforce development for Greater Cleveland through a broad range of financial aid and advisory programs. CSP encourages all individuals to meet their highest potential through education, thereby enhancing the quality of their lives and strengthening the regional economy.
The Cleveland Browns Foundation is looking forward to accepting scholarship applications. The application deadline is November 1st and recipients will be announced at the January 1st game against the Baltimore Ravens.
