The Browns filled another coaching vacancy Tuesday with the hiring of Alfredo Roberts as the team's tight ends coach.

Roberts spent the past four seasons as tight ends coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He will come to Cleveland to aid the further development of Kellen Winslow, who tied the team's single-season receptions record (89)in 2006.

"I would like to thank head coach Romeo Crennel and offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski for the opportunity to come to the Cleveland Browns," Roberts said. "I am excited for this new challenge in my coaching career and I'm looking forward to working with Kellen Winslow, Steve Heiden and Darnell Dinkins."

Selected in the eighth round of the 1988 draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, Roberts played three seasons in Kansas City before joining the Dallas Cowboys in 1991. He was part of the two Super Bowl championship teams under head coach Jimmy Johnson.

Roberts played in all 16 games for five consecutive seasons until his career ended in 1994 following a foot injury.

Roberts attended the Miami (Fla.) from 1983-87 where he received a degree in criminal justice. There, he was a member of two national championship teams. His second title with the school (1987), also came under the tutelage of Johnson.

Roberts co-owned a successful restaurant in Dallas, Cowboy Café, from 1993 until starting his coaching career in 1999. He joined the inaugural coaching staff at Florida Atlantic University and served as the program's receivers coach for final last two years on the staff before joining the Jaguars in 2003.
