Camp notes: The heat is on

The party is over is for the Browns. Mother Nature saw to it.
After beautiful weather -- normal temperatures and below-normal humidity -- made for very comfortable conditions for the first three days of training camp, things were hot and sticky for Saturday morning's practice.
The only respite the players got was when the sun went behind some clouds. Other than that, the sweat flowed from players, coaches and fans for the first time, really.
"It was more humid out there, and it took its toll on the players," Browns head coach Romeo Crennel said. "I talked to the players about hydrating themselves more."
To add to the situation, the Browns worked in full pads after having also done so on Friday, making the players' bodies "sore and tired," according to Crennel. "This was our third real day of camp (the first practice on Wednesday was light), so this was our hump day."
With August right around the corner, this is just the start of the hot, humid weather, which all players hate and all coaches love because it builds the players' stamina.
Grab a towel and a cool drink, turn on the fan and stay tuned.
CAMPER OF THE DAY: Even though backup inside linebacker Shantee Orr got some notice the other day when he popped running back Jamal Lewis, it will be as a special teamer where he will make the biggest impact on the Browns. A free agent who's played with the Texans and Jaguars, he's trying to winthe role formerly held by Chaun Thompson, who departed to the Houston Texans in free agency in the offseason.
PLAYS OF THE DAY: Orr gave a hard pop to Austin Scott after the running back caught a short pass. ... Veteran outside linebacker Willie McGinest used his shoulder to send Travis Thomas to the ground after the back also hauled in a short pass. ... Likewise, defensive back Mil'Von James crunched Scott after he caught a pass. ... Quarterback Derek Anderson and wide receiver Braylon Edwards hooked up on a nice go route down the right sideline. They would have hit another long one if there had not been pass interference on Edwards by defensive back Nick Sorenson.
CROWD-PLEASER: The appreciative fans gave another round of applause, this time to the team for a good overall performance, following the morning practice.
