Browns acquire Travis Daniels

Zac Jackson, Staff Writer

08.20.2008

The Browns made a trade to bolster their young secondary Wednesday, acquiring four-year veteran Travis Daniels from the Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick.

Daniels, who's played in 44 career games with 25 starts, has NFL experience at both cornerback and safety. He has 3 career interceptions, one in each of his previous three seasons.

The trade is contingent upon Daniels passing a physical with the Browns.

He started 14 games at cornerback as a rookie and started at both cornerback and safety last season. At 6-foot-1, he could have a chance to be the "big" corner the Browns have been missing.

Daniels will turn 26 the day after the Browns' season opener against the Cowboys. He's a native of Hollywood, Fla., who was a fourth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2005. He was a four-year contributor and a two-year starter during his college career at LSU.

Undrafted rookie Mil'von James was waived.

"(Daniels) hasexperience and he has25 starts in the NFL," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said."We find that guys with experience bring a little bit to the table. We need a little bit on the table, so we're bringing him in.

"We're going to have to see where he is going to fit because I doubt that he'll be able to come in and just jump right in because the terminology is new. We have to get him acclimated, and once we do that we'll determine where we're going to place him."
