New Player Profile: Eric Barton

07.20.2009

Eric Barton is one of the highest-profile new Browns, but he doesn't see himself as any different than anyone else in the locker room.

He just wants to work as hard as possible and be part of a winner.

"I think you make your own luck in this game," he said while sitting down for this ClevelandBrowns.com New Player Profile. "You do it with preparation. And when you put yourself in the right places, you're there to seize those golden opportunities when they come."

An 11-year vet, Barton started his career with the Raiders -- with whom he played in the Super Bowl following the 2002 season -- before going to the Jets, where he played the last three seasons under Eric Mangini. He signed with the Browns in March and figures to be a starter at inside linebacker alongside D'Qwell Jackson.

It didn't take Barton long to impress his new teammates in the spring with his knowledge of the system and of the game as a whole. Though he's older than Jackson, both played at the University of Maryland and share mutual friends and mutual experiences. In the interview, he talks about his relationship with Jackson and his feelings on being able to play football for a living.

"Every day I think about how blessed I am to be playing this game," he said.
