Browns make roster moves

08.20.2009

The Cleveland Browns today signed free agents offensive lineman Pat Murray and linebacker Robert McCune, the club announced. In addition, the team waived offensive lineman Branndon Braxton and wide receiver Edward Williams.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers on May 4, 2007, Murray was waived following training camp. He was then signed by the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent the first 14 weeks of the 2008 season on the Seahawks' practice squad before signing to Denver's active roster on December 9, 2008. He was waived by the Broncos on August 17, 2009.

A three-year starter at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, Murray appeared in 41 games with 32 starts in his collegiate career. He earned first-team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association honors following his junior and senior seasons, and was a second-team choice as a sophomore. Born on October 31, 1984 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the 6-3, 316-pound Murray attended Pocahontas (Iowa) High School.

McCune, 30, was a fifth-round (154th overall) draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 2005. He has appeared in eight games and posted nine tackles during his career while also spending time with Miami (2006) and Baltimore (2007-08).

A four-year letter winner and two-year starter at Louisville, McCune saw action in 51 games with 27 starts. He notched 320 tackles, six sacks and two interceptions during his collegiate career, while earning first-team All-Conference USA honors as a senior. The 6-0, 245-pound McCune is a native of Mobile, Alabama, where he attended John L. LeFlore High School.
