Community Outreach
Taking a unique approach, the NFL has worked with teachers across the nation to create a curriculum incorporating physical activity components throughout each subject studied for students 9-13 years of age. The Browns program will launch for the 2006-2007 school year. During this time, students will be challenged with the phrase 'What Moves U’. Many of today’s kids and teens face enormous health challenges brought on by the growing trend of obesity and physical inactivity. In fact, obesity rates have doubled over the past 20 years and are currently at an all-time high. This trend is leading to a broad range of health problems for children that previously weren’t seen until adulthood - including high blood pressure, type II diabetes, and elevated blood cholesterol levels. In addition to the physical toll, obese children often suffer from low self-esteem, negative body image, and depression.
Through the What Moves U program, the Browns aim to inspire and motivate kids to become active, whether in sports, the classroom, with family or friends. We challenge kids to improve their health and fitness through positive activities that are unique to their personalities.
