Sparkle Effect

The Sparkle Effect is a national non-profit that creates and supports school-based cheerleading teams across the United States that include and empower students with and without disabilities. The Cleveland Browns Foundation support inclusive sparkle cheer teams at Lakewood High School, North Ridgeville High School and Dover High School.

A recent study found that students with disabilities who participate on Sparkle Effect teams have become more engaged and confident in classroom activities. The study also found an increase in respectful, accepting, and inclusive interactions between students with disabilities and their peers in general in both the classroom and during extracurricular activities. Finally, this case study reported that the Sparkle Effect teams have produced a greater sense of school and community pride. (St. Ambrose University Case Study, 2015)
