The greatest Cleveland Brown was welcomed to the team’s Ring of Honor in front of 71,239 of what he called “the greatest fans” in the NFL on Thursday night.
Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown was honored at halftime of the Browns’ 37-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills by officially being inducted in the Cleveland Browns Ring of Honor.
“It means respect,” Brown told the NFL Network Thursday. “When you respect someone and the work that they’ve done, and you display it, that means better. Tonight, I have my family with me and my son and daughter will have a chance to see what respect is all about.”
Brown was not only honored by the Browns, but also the City of Cleveland as Mayor Frank Jackson officially declared Oct. 3 as “Jim Brown Day” throughout the city. Following the victory, Browns coach Rob Chudzinski presented Brown with the game ball in the locker room for all that he had done for the franchise in the past and the present.
During this past offseason, Brown rejoined the Browns’ front office as a Special Advisor. Returning to the team where he still holds many rushing records and reaching back to the Cleveland community are opportunities Brown embraced whole-heartedly.
“It’s great to be back,” Brown told WKYC, TV-3. “This is where I should be. I am always going to be a Cleveland Brown. I love this city, and I love these fans. We have the greatest fans in the world.
“I’ve never lost touch with them. They’re great. They’ve gone through some lean years, but they always remember the ’64 Championship team, and I’m happy to be back here. These young guys are playing (well), and if we can just get a victory tonight, all of it will be worth it.”
Well, the Browns did get that win, their third straight, and Brown believes that is a sign of many good things for the franchise.
“You have some young guys that believe,” Brown said. “They believe in their coaching staff. They love the city, and they love to be outlaws. They will go after you. That defense is a defense made up of diverse personalities, and when you mention (Barkevious) Mingo, he’s one of them. You’re talking about (Desmond) Bryant; you’re talking about D’Qwell (Jackson), and
