Cleveland Browns Draft Day Notes 4-27-13

The Browns traded their fourth round pick (111th overall) to Pittsburgh for the Steelers’ 2014 third round pick. Cleveland also traded its fifth round selection (139th overall) to Indianapolis for the Colts’ 2014 fourth round choice.

The last time the Browns selected defensive players with each of their first four picks in the draft was in 1988, when the club used its first five selections on defensive players.

Defensive back Jamoris Slaughter is the 14th player selected by the Browns from Notre Dame and first since quarterback Brady Quinn was selected in the first round of the 2007 draft.

Defensive lineman Armonty Bryant joins guard Ed Stewart as the only players selected by the Browns from East Central Oklahoma. Stewart was a 14th round selection in 1972.

Offensive lineman Garrett Gilkey joins Bennie Francis (15th round by Minnesota in 1970) and Don Beebe (3rd round Buffalo 1989) as the only players from Chadron State to be selected in the NFL draft. During Gilkey’s junior and senior seasons at Aurora (Ill.) Christian High School, Beebe served as his head football head coach.

This year marked the first time since 2008 that the Browns did not draft a running back or fullback.
