Browns add eight through draft

Posted Apr 24, 2010

The Browns entered the 2010 NFL Draft with ten picks and emerged on Saturday afternoon with eight new players and a football staff excited about the results of the three-day event.

“We finished a very productive draft, the draft portion of it and of course, now, we’ve got to roll up our sleeves and fill out the roster with free agents,” said President Mike Holmgren.

“Tom (Heckert) did a great job of setting the board up,” he added. “Eric (Mangini) and the coaches were very thorough and communicated very well with us on what he thought he needed to make the team stronger. The communication was excellent in the room and it was a very, very healthy, good start for us.”

On the final day of the Draft, Larry Asante, Carlton Mitchell and Clifton Geathers joined a talented class of first and second day picks in Joe Haden, T.J. Ward, Montario Hardesty, Colt McCoy and Shawn Lauvao.

“I’m excited about all these guys,” Mangini said. “I think we did a lot of things that can really help us and we’ve gotten a lot of good kids as well, which is important. Now, it’s up to us and them to figure out the best way for them to contribute, hopefully, right away in whatever context that is.”

“Carlton’s a guy with great size and great speed,” said Heckert. “Why he fell as far as he did, I don’t have the answer to that. We’re happy to have him. He’s a little bit on the raw side; he’s going to need some time, but he showed flashes of being a really good player and we’re excited to work with him.”

“Just looking at the big picture, I think we could be a little stronger right now without ever having played a game,” Holmgren concluded. “The idea is to keep your core and then keep building on it and get a little stronger next year.”

Here is a recap of the Browns picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.
