Browns believe in direction of team

Despite a 4-9 record, the Cleveland Browns have remained positive, and hungry for victories down the stretch of the 2013 regular season.

The Cleveland Browns entered the bye week of Nov. 10 on the heels of a 24-18 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, a win that improved their record to 4-5 and brought them to within 1.5 games of the AFC North Division-leading Cincinnati Bengals.

However, since returning to the field, the Browns have lost four straight games, the last two of which because of last-minute scores by the Jacksonville Jaguars at home and New England Patriots on the road.

Despite the 4-9 record with three games to play, the Browns’ players have remained positive in their weekly approach.

“I think it says a lot about them, and the type of guys we have on the team, their mindset, the mindset that we’ve developed as a team and the direction that they feel like we’re going in and we are going in,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. “Every time you get a chance to step onto the field, it’s an opportunity to go play and our guys are excited about competing. That’s how they approach every week.”

Chudzinski saw that positive attitude again manifest itself in the Browns’ on-field work and classroom meetings leading up to Sunday’s home finale against the Chicago Bears at FirstEnergy Stadium.

“We’ve had a good week of preparation,” Chudzinski said. “I’m proud of the way our coaches and players have responded to the ups and downs of the season. This is certainly a big challenge for us this week against the Bears. We’re excited about getting back out in front of our fans at FirstEnergy Stadium and are looking forward to the opportunity to play.”

The Browns have enjoyed a home-field advantage at FirstEnergy Stadium this year, as the team has played in front of an average of 71,203 fans over the previous seven regular-season home games.

“We want to end on a positive note, and it’s huge to end strong and really get it going,” Cameron said. “For the fans especially, it’s really important to them. This is the last time we’re going to put a show on for them this year, and hopefully, we come out with a lot of energy and feed off their energy.

“I feel like this whole group has been positive all year. We’ve dealt with so much, and we’ve found ways to prepare each week and really bounce back. There’s been a lot of negative, and I think we’re kind of tired of hearing all of the negative stuff. We’ve got no other choice but to be positive. It doesn’t help to mope around and feel bad for yourselves. We’ve got to be mentally tough and have that positive vibe going forward. We’ve got to find a way to win these close ones.”
