Hardesty carried the ball seven times for 25 yards and scored a touchdown in his debut against the Chicago Bears Thursday night. He gained two yards on his final carry before heading to the sidelines for the rest of the game.
“We are all very disappointed for Montario,” said Browns coach Eric Mangini. “He’s worked extremely hard since he was drafted, he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, and I’m sure he will be just as diligent with his rehab. It’s unfortunate but it opens the door for other guys to step up and contribute.”
The Browns waived wide receivers Jake Allen and Syndric Steptoe, offensive linemen Casey Bender and Joel Reinders, tight end Joel Gamble and defensive back Coye Francies.
Steptoe caught two passes for 25 yards in the preseason. He also had 9 punt and 3 kickoff returns. Gamble hauled in a 16-yard reception, while Allen had three catches for 30 yards
The Browns will make more roster moves Saturday to get down to the league maximum of 53 players. Stay tuned to ClevelandBrowns.com more information as it becomes available
