Browns sign Brian Sanford

The Cleveland Browns signed defensive lineman Brian Sanford, the team announced Thursday.

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Thursday signed defensive lineman Brian Sanford.

Sanford is 6-2, 280 pounds and officially in this third NFL season out of Temple. Originally signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2010, Sanford spent the past three seasons with the Browns (2010-12), appearing in six games and totaling five tackles. This season, he was waived by Cleveland during the final roster reduction (Aug. 31) and claimed by Oakland. He appeared in five games with the Raiders with one start and registered seven tackles. He was most recently waived by Oakland on Dec. 7.

He is a native of Hartford, Conn., where he graduated from Hartford Public High School.

The Browns also signed rookie wide receiver Conner Vernon to the practice squad. He spent training camp with the Raiders. In addition, defensive back Terrence Frederick was signed off the Browns’ practice squad to New Orleans’ active roster, and running back Jamaine Cook was released from the practice squad.
