Browns trade pick to Falcons

The Browns traded the No. 6 overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Browns have traded the No. 6 overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons, who hold the No. 27 pick in the first round.

In exchange, the Browns received the 27th, 59th (second round) and 124th (fourth round) in 2011, as well as the Falcons’ first and fourth round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.

With the pick, the Falcons selected wide receiver Julio Jones out of the University of Alabama.

Jones gained 1,133 yards and scores seven touchdowns on 78 receptions in 2010. He totaled 2,653 yards and 15 touchdowns on 179 career catches. In addition to owning Alabama’s records for receptions and receiving yards in a single season, Jones brings a physical style of play to the football field.

“I have a defensive mentality,” Jones said at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine. “I’m not scared to hit. I’m a physical guy; I look for that. I like to hit defensive players because they’re not used to getting hit. They’re used to hitting offensive players and getting them out of their comfort zone. When I hit them, I try to get them out of their comfort zone.

“I’m not a selfish player; I go out there and block because I know, just like the running back has got to sit in there for protection when I go out for a deep pass or something,” he added. “I know he’s going to block, going to handle his responsibilities, so I try to do the same as well. If I’m on the backside of a route, I’m not going to take a play off.”
