Cameron 'happy' with promotion

Posted Nov 2, 2012

Defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron was happy with his promotion from the practice squad to the active roster on Friday.

On Friday, the Cleveland Browns promoted defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron from the practice squad to the active roster.

“I was just happy, happy to have an opportunity to help this team,” Cameron said. “That’s all I’ve been waiting for, an opportunity to help this team get some wins, especially, this week. It’s a big week coming up and playing Baltimore. Whatever I can do, whatever capacity I could be in to help, that’s what I’m looking forward to doing.”

Cameron said he can add “depth and energy” to the Browns’ defensive line.

“I’m a guy that can get up the field and, hopefully, cause some havoc, definitely help against the run game, especially this week,” Cameron said. “I’m ready and I’m available. If they include me in it, I’m ready to go.”

Between stops at Hofstra and Old Dominion universities, Cameron played in 46 career games at the NCAA level. During his junior year, he registered 72 total tackles and 5.5 sacks. The next season, Cameron helped get Old Dominion to the postseason when he made 73 total tackles and registered 6.5 sacks.

Cameron’s promotion to the active roster follows a whirlwind of travel throughout the early part of his first NFL season.

Originally signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on April 29, Cameron was waived after the team’s first preseason game. After being awarded to the Browns from waivers on Aug. 14, Cameron finished training camp with the team, but was waived on Aug. 31.

The next day, the Browns signed Cameron to the practice squad, where he spent the first eight weeks of the regular season.

“It’s been a long road,” Cameron said. “After I got cut by the Bears, I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep playing football or not because I didn’t know what was going to happen. I ended up getting claimed by a few teams and getting picked up by the Cleveland Browns. It’s been really good since I’ve been here.”
