Carder out, Eubanks to start

Posted Dec 1, 2013

Cleveland Browns linebacker Darius Eubanks will start in place of the injured Tank Carder and Craig Robertson.

Rookie linebacker Darius Eubanks will make his first career start for the Cleveland Browns in place of the injured Tank Carder and Craig Robertson today against the Jacksonville Jaguars at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Eubanks came on in relief of Carder in the second half of last week’s 27-11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and registered six total tackles, including two solo stops.

“I thought Darius did a really nice job stepping in last week without a ton of reps,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. “Obviously, he’s been able to get those reps this week, and I really like what I’ve seen out of him. I’m really looking forward to seeing him with this opportunity.”

Defensive coordinator Ray Horton added, “He did well. You hold them to less than their average in yards and rush average. He was basically our third starter in at that position and Le’Veon Bell rushed for 72 yards. They tried to rush the ball at the end of the game. They tried to rush the ball in the middle of the game, and he played well.”

In addition to Carder (shoulder) and Robertson (knee), the Browns have deactivated quarterback Jason Campbell (concussion), defensive lineman Ishmaa’ily Kitchen and offensive linemen Martin Wallace, Garrett Gilkey and Reid Fragel.

Despite being limited in practice all week, defensive lineman Armonty Bryant (back spasms) and tight end MarQueis Gray (hamstring) are active for the game.

The Jaguars have deactivated quarterback Ricky Stanzi, wide receivers Stephen Burton and Jeremy Ebert, running back Justin Forsett, cornerback Jamell Fleming, guard Jacques McClendon, and defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey.
