The transcript of South Florida WR Carlton Mitchell's Saturday afternoon conference call.

Browns Wide Receiver Carlton Mitchell Conference Call 4-24-10

(On his awareness of the Browns need at wide receiver)- “That’s what I was told. I was told this was the perfect team, the perfect fit for me and honestly, I’m very excited. I feel very blessed to be in this situation and I can’t wait to get there and start working.”

(On what went into his decision to leave college a year early and if he has any regrets) - “I still stand behind my decision. I have no regrets in life and I still have a love and passion for this sport and I’m ready to play anything. I’m ready to go in and start working right now.”

(On why he decided to come out a year early) - “The main thing was my love and my passion for the sport and I just knew, both mentally and physically, I’m there. I know there’s nothing that lies ahead that can stop me from becoming the type of person that I want to be. My mindset, it’s a lot different. I feel as though I’m a different player, I think a lot different from others and obviously I’m ready. I’m just very excited right now. I don’t regret anything at all. God put me in the situation and this is where I want to be at, and this is where I love to be at and everything happens for a reason. But as far as coming out early, I know I made the right decision.”

(On if he feels that he is a ‘burner’ at wide receiver) - “The Lord’s blessed me with some pretty decent speed so I feel as if I can stretch the field a little bit.”

(On his mother serving as a ‘cut-man’ for Antonio Tarver) - “It’s pretty exciting. Watching boxing on TV and watching it in person is a whole other speed. Just being around that atmosphere, and just being around those people, and the way that they compete. Just the mindset of everything is amazing.”

(On who in the NFL he looks up to and finds similar in style of play) - “Honestly there’s a few receivers in the league that I take a little bit from. But as far as just one receiver, I don’t really compare myself to anyone. Hopefully since I made it to the NFL, I am going to try to make a name for myself. There’s a lot of talk about comparing guys, different types of players. But at the same time, I don’t really look at it like that.”

(On if he considers himself a physical receiver and his comparison to Brandon Marshall) - “I consider myself to be a physical receiver, yes. But as far as me and Brandon Marshall being alike, I respect him a great amount. He’s a very good receiver. I actually watched a few of his highlights before a few games. His style, me and him playing alike, I just feel as though were still two different receivers.”

(On him catching the ball with his chest being a fair criticism) - “I had a few balls that got to my body. Yes, I agree, but at the same time I am very confident in my hands. I’ve been working on, since January, plucking the ball away from my frame. It’s something that I made a great improvement in and it’s something that I will continue to improve on.”

(On if he tried boxing) - “No, that’s not my sport. I have very fast hands, but at the same time, my love and my passion is football.”

(On not putting up big numbers in college) - “I played in the offense, it was a run first offense. We based everything around the quarterback. To tell you the truth, the numbers I had, I was fine with. Everything was going smooth and everything is still, even if I didn’t get hurt. I was just playing my role actually. It wasn’t just focused on one receiver, every one played a part. It was a timing scheme offense. Whatever role that was given to me, that’s all I could ask for. At the end of the day, I’m just trying to listen to my coach and try to help the team win games.”

(On his dad playing professional basketball in Europe and what he remembers from it) - “I was almost born in Spain, actually. My mom she came back, she wasn’t having it. Everyone on my mom’s side was born in Gainesville. I have little flashes in my head about being overseas, but for the most part, I don’t remember much. For a while up to high school, I played basketball and baseball my whole life and I thought that was my main sport. Once I moved over to football, I just fell in love with it.”

(On the potential McCoy to Mitchell combination) - “Very true. I am very excited about this. He loves to work and I love to work. I just can’t wait to get there.”

(On what his mother and father’s first names are) - “Angela Mitchell and Carlton Mitchell.”
