Chudzinski press conf. transcript - Dec. 20

Posted Dec 20, 2013

The transcript of Coach Rob Chudzinski's Friday afternoon post-practice press conference.

Opening statement: “Our players continue to impress me in terms of their preparation and dedication to winning. We’ve had a great week of practice and preparation. We’ll continue to work to find ways to get better. This will be a great opportunity for us this week against the Jets.”

On DB Joe Haden’s status: “He’s questionable for the game so we’ll see in the next couple of days how it goes for him and if he’ll be ready.”

On what Haden did in practice today: “He moved around and did some things today. I thought he looked good. Again, we’ll wait and see how it goes before the game.”

On if Haden was limited in practice as a precautionary measure: “Obviously, there’s some of that and there’s some from a physical standpoint. We’ve got another two days. (Haden) will continue to get treatment on it, and he’ll see if he’s ready to go.”

On what it says about Haden that he wants to play out the rest of the season: “It says a lot about him and I think, as I’ve said many times, that’s the type of guys we have in the locker room. They’re dedicated, they play hard for each other and it’s a real team. I think that Joe exemplifies that.”

On if it is unusual the Jets TE Kellen Winslow said that no one can cover him: “He’s thought that for years. That’s the confidence that you want football players to have.”

On what sets Winslow apart from other tight ends he coached in the past: “He’s very competitive, he’s very talented, has got great hands and understands [the game]. He’s been around the game for a long time.”

On WR Davone Bess not practicing: “I’ve excused him for personal reasons.”

On if he expects Bess to travel with the team to New York, noting he is questionable on the injury report: “I’ll have a better idea on that tomorrow.”

On if WR Josh Cooper will fill in for Bess in the slot, if Bess is unable to play: “Yeah, Cooper, and we have some flexibility with (WR) Greg Little as well.”

On if he excused Bess from practice yesterday for personal reasons, as well: “Yes.”

On the decision to place now-Dolphins DB Chris Owens on injured reserve: “At the time, if you put a guy on IR in that short amount of time, it’s sort of a procedural thing. With this few weeks in the season that we had and as many weeks as he was going to be hurt – at that particular time, I think we were working through our quarterback situation, plus a number of other injuries on the roster – we just were in a position where that was the thing that we had to do with his injury.”

On the fact that he’s healthy now not being a surprise, and not knowing when he would be healthy at the time of his injury: “Right, and it’s difficult, always, knowing when a guy’s going to be back, as well.”

On if Owens’ prognosis estimated a return at this time: “(He) could be right around this time, and not knowing how long or how short that was going to be.”

On if Owens asked to be placed on injured reserve: “It’s a procedural thing; that’s how it works, once you put them on IR minor.”

On how TE Jordan Cameron is doing and if he has been at the facility: “He’s feeling better but he hasn’t been able to do anything practice wise or anything else.”
