Already the Browns’ franchise leader with 276 field goals, Dawson moved into second place on the team’s all-time scoring list in 2011. Dawson’s 24 field goals and 20 extra points in 2011 brought his career total to 1,155 points and moved him past Browns Legend Don Cockroft on the Browns’ scoring list.
Dawson tied for the NFL’s lead with seven field goals from 50 or more yards last season. He hit from 50 yards (at Houston on Nov. 6), 51 (vs. Tennessee on Oct. 2 and at Houston), 52 (vs. Seattle on Oct. 23 and at San Francisco on Oct. 30), 53 (Seattle), and 54 (at Cincinnati on Nov. 27) in 2011. Only San Francisco’s David Akers and Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski had as many 50-yard field goals as Dawson. However, Dawson had the best percentage (87.5 percent) from 50 or more yards.
Dawson had made just 10 field goals from 50 or more yards in his previous 12 seasons combined.
Dawson has converted 276 of 332 field goal attempts and his 83.1 percentage is the best in team history. He has played in 199 games, the fifth-most all-time by a Brown and could pass both Gene Hickerson (202) and Doug Dieken (203) in 2012.
In his career, Dawson has made 137 of 164 attempts at Cleveland Browns Stadium. His 83.5 percentage is nearly six points higher than opposing kickers. Kickers from the NFL’s other 31 teams have converted 171 of 220 (77.7 percent) of their field goal attempts.
