This will mark the third time the city of Cleveland has hosted a U.S. Men’s National Team match and the first since May 26, 2006. In that contest, which was also held at FirstEnergy Stadium, the U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Venezuela, 2-0, in the second stage of the Send-Off Series for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The team’s first match in Cleveland came on May 21, 1994, as they were defeated by Bayern Munich, 3-2, at Municipal Stadium.
This year’s contest marks the fifth meeting between the U.S. Men’s National Team and Belgium, with each of the previous four taking place on foreign soil. Belgium holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 1-0 victory on September 6, 2011, in their last meeting.
The match against Belgium kicks off a packed summer for the National Team, which will play in three FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July.
