INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Cleveland Browns, 27-6, in tonight’s preseason game from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Indianapolis safety Larry Asante, a former Brown, returned an interception of quarterback Bryan Hoyer 48 yards for a touchdown, and increased the Colts’ lead to 27-6 with 4:22 remaining in the game.

The interception came on the Browns’ first play after recovering an onside kick.

Kicker Shayne Graham’s 44-yard field goal cut the Colts’ lead over the Browns to 20-6 with 4:33 left to play. Graham’s second field goal of the game capped off a 13-play, 65-yard drive that took 4:44 off the clock.

After three quarters of play in tonight’s preseason game, the Colts held a 20-3 lead over the Browns.

Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri converted a 25-yard field goal attempt and built the Colts’ lead over the Browns to 20-3 with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter of tonight’s preseason game.

The scoring drive covered 51 yards on eight plays in three minutes.

Earlier in the game, Graham converted a 50-yard attempt and cut the Colts’ lead to 17-3 with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter of play. Graham’s kick finished off an 11-play, 48-yard drive that lasted 3:56.

Two scoring drives on their first three possessions of the game staked the Colts out to a 10-0 halftime lead over the Browns.

Indianapolis fullback Stanley Havili caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Luck and expanded the Colts’ lead to 10-0 over the Browns with 8:09 left to play in the first half. The Colts’ second scoring drive travelled 66 yards on eight plays in 4:39.

A field goal is all that separated the Colts from the Browns as the defending AFC South Division champions held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

Adam Vinatieri’s 32-yard field goal at the 8:52 mark of the first quarter gave the Colts the lead over the Browns. Vinatieri capped off a 10-play, 46-yard drive that took 6:08 off the clock.

The Colts gained the majority of those 46 yards on two plays, when wide receiver Reggie Wayne caught a 14-yard pass on second-and-13 from the Colts’ 48-yard line, followed two plays later by a 15-yard run from Vick Ballard.

However, the Browns’ red-zone defense stopped Ballard for a five-yard loss when linebacker D’Qwell Jackson shot through a hole in the Colts’ offensive line created by defensive end Ahtyba Rubin and knocked the ball-carrier out of bounds on first-and-10 from Cleveland’s 17-yard line. Then, the defense limited Luck to eight yards on back-to-back scrambles.
