Glenville, Highland batte for state final berth

The Division II State semifinal between Glenville and Highland will be featured as this week’s Cleveland Browns High School Game of the Week, presented by PNC Bank.

Glenville is 12-1 on the year, and advanced to the Division II state semifinal by beating Lyndhurst Brush in the regional quarterfinals, 35-0, Bedford in the quarterfinals, 26-12, and Madison, 40-7, in the Division II Region 3 final. The Tarblooders are led by head coach Ted Ginn Sr., who has been the head coach at Glenville since 1997.

Highland is 13-0 on the year, and advanced to the Division II state semifinal by beating Avon Lake in the regional quarterfinals, 28-21, Massillon-Washington in the quarterfinals, 17-14, and Avon, 24-21, in the Division II Region 4 final. The Hornets are led by head coach Tom Lombardo, who has been the head coach at Highland since 2007.

The last time Glenville was in the state semifinals came back in 2009. This is Glenville’s third appearance in the state semifinals in school history.  This year marks Highland’s sixth postseason appearance in school history and its first-ever state semifinal appearance.

The winner will advance to the Division II State Championship game to play the winner of the Zanesville-Loveland matchup.
