Joe Haden questionable for Jets game

Cleveland Browns defensive back Joe Haden is questionable for Sunday’s game at the New York Jets.

Cleveland Browns defensive back Joe Haden is questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium after he was limited in practice Friday because of a hip pointer suffered in last week’s loss to the Chicago Bears.

Haden returned to practice Friday after being unable to participate on Wednesday and Thursday.

“I just tried to do warm-ups, individual drills,” Haden said of Friday’s practice. “It felt pretty good. We’re still working day-by-day. It’s feeling better. It’s been feeling better every day. The training staff, they just want me to keep coming in and keep seeing what I can do.”

When healthy, Haden has been an impact player in the Browns’ secondary this season.

Haden has registered 58 total tackles, including a career-high 53 solo stops, and four interceptions, one of which he returned for a 29-yard touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 17.

“I’m just trying to see what I can do, like coming out of my breaks. They don’t want me to do too much. We’re still just treating it and trying to wait. If I’m able to go, it’ll be on Sunday. The other thing is trying to get my legs, when I move and make certain movements, not feeling restrained and feeling really bad.”

The Browns have two more days to decide if Haden’s hip pointer will prevent him from playing, and they will use that time to evaluate whether or not he will be able to play at a high level come Sunday.

“We’ll see in the next couple days how it goes for him and if he’ll be ready,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. “He moved around, did some things today. I thought he looked good, and we’ll wait and see how it goes before the game.

“We’ve got another two days and will continue to get treatment on it, and we’ll see if he’s ready to go.”

Although he is not sure of Haden’s status for Sunday, Chudzinski was proud of the fight within the young cornerback.

“It says a lot about him, and I think that’s the type of guys we have in the locker room,” Chudzinski said. “They’re dedicated. They play hard for each other, and it’s a real team. I think Joe exemplifies that.”

STATUS UPDATES

For the second straight day, wide receiver Davone Bess missed practice, and he is questionable for the game.

“I’ve excused him for personal reasons,” Chudzinski said. “I’ll have a better idea on that tomorrow.”

While Haden and Bess are questionable, tight end Jordan Cameron (concussion) is one of three Browns, along with offensive lineman John Greco (knee) and fellow tight end Andre Smith (calf), who will miss Sunday’s game against the Jets.

“He’s feeling better, but he hasn’t been able to do anything practice-wise,” Chudzinski said of Cameron.
