Outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo is expected to start for the Browns against the Detroit Lions today.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to start rookie Barkevious Mingo at outside linebacker today against the Detroit Lions at FirstEnergy Stadium in place of Jabaal Sheard, who is inactive for the third straight game after suffering a knee injury in the team’s 31-27 win at the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 22.

Mingo has registered three sacks in his first four professional games -- which rank second on the team, and also among NFL rookies -- and collected four quarterback hits in last Thursday’s win over the Buffalo Bills.

Fellow outside linebacker Quentin Groves is active after he suffered an ankle injury on the second-half kickoff at Baltimore Sept. 15.

In addition to Sheard, the Browns have deactivated offensive linemen Patrick Lewis, Martin Wallace and Garrett Gilkey, tight end Keavon Milton, defensive lineman Billy Winn, and wide receiver Charles Johnson, who was signed by the team from Green Bay’s practice squad on Saturday.

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is active after missing last week’s 22-9 loss at Green Bay. Johnson leads the Lions with 312 yards and four touchdowns on 21 catches through four games.

Detroit deactivated wide receiver Nate Burleson, quarterback Kellen Moore, cornerback Jonte Green, running back Theo Riddick, guard Leroy Harris, tackle Jason Fox and tight end Tony Scheffler for the game.

Veteran offensive lineman Corey Hilliard will start at right tackle in Fox’s place.
