Post-practice quotes from running back Trent Richardson and quarterback Brandon Weeden.

Browns Player Quotes (Richardson and Weeden) 10-3-12

Trent Richardson:

(On if it is an honor to be named game captain this week) – “Oh yeah, most definitely. To be a game captain, it means a lot to me. It’s an honor and it’s a privilege really. It means the guys have a lot of respect for me, it means I’ve earned and I’ve learned a lot since I’ve been here. There’s still a lot to go as far as my potential and as far as this year, there’s still a lot to go for us as a football team. These guys believe in me and they are showing me and telling me that, ‘We behind you, lead us on.’”

(On if there is any kind of pressure on the team to get their first win) – “I think there’s always pressure when it comes to getting your first win and we still haven’t got it yet. I think we are the last team in the NFL not to have a win, but I think it’s only pressure if you make it pressure. I think we can pull this off and we are not getting blown out by any teams. I think last week was our worst performance and like Coach (Shurmur) told us, if we do one play better each week, we’ll be right there. We’ve got to make sure we finish games.”

(On how much better he can be against Cincinnati this week) – “It depends on how we play and what they give us. I’m pretty sure they are going to try to game plan around me and they are going to try to do everything they can to stop me. That’s when Brandon (Weeden) comes into play, that’s when (Greg) G-Little comes into play, that’s when a lot of our guys with different talents come into play. (Chris) Ogbonnaya, that’s when he comes into play. So when people come in and try to just take me out, we’ve a lot more talent out there. When everybody’s doing their job, I think that we can all just increase out play much better.”

Brandon Weeden:

(On what he remembers from the first Bengals game) – “I think offensively, we made a lot of positive adjustments going forward from that Eagles game. I think we took care of the football. We didn’t hurt ourselves, and we did some things to move the ball down the field without going backwards. That was kind of a game we kind of found our identity a little bit. I think that’s one thing that we kind of gained some confidence from going forward from that game. Hopefully we can repeat it.”

(On fixing mistakes without tempering his aggressive style) – “There’s a fine line. Guys who have been aggressive throughout the past, it has resulted in turnovers. I don’t need to be as aggressive as I have been in the past. I need to be smarter. I need to take what they give me. I think when you’re in college, and guys are open all the time, it’s easy to be aggressive because you’re throwing to open guys. In this league, not everybody’s open. I’ve looked at every game we’ve played so far. Since Sunday, I’ve watched every game we’ve played so far, and (there are) areas where I can just throw the football away, and move on to the next play. It was third and one the other day, throw it out of bounds, (and) let Phil (Dawson) kick a field goal and move on. It’s an ego thing. I think I just need to get rid of the ego, take what they give me and move on. (I need to) not be as stubborn, just throw the football away and move on.”

(On facing the Bengals for a second time) – “They’re good. I think they’ve gotten better even. I think their front four is really good. They can rush the passer. I think they lead the league in sacks. They’re really good at creating pressure with their front four. Their secondary’s good. They’re a good football team. They’re a playoff team from a year ago and they’re a team that keeps getting better I think. We just have to go out and play well. We just have to go out and play well and continue to make strides. We need to win. However we can do it, we need to win.”
