Postgame quotes from several Browns players.

WR Mohamed Massaquoi

(On why offense couldn’t get anything going) - “We have to look at it and figure it out.  Each week we try to bring in a game plan to try and get us some success, but we started a little slow.  And whenever you do that, you spot them by fourteen points and it’s almost impossible to win.”

(On hanging their heads after loss) - “No.  I mean, we work too hard.  We have a lot of good players in this room; we just have to figure out a way to get over the hump.  Once we get over the hump, I think the momentum will swing in our favor.  We just have to figure out a way to get over the hump.”

(On first possession of the game being scripted) - “Every team goes in with a game plan and you kind of adjust it going on.  You know, so sometimes you execute the way you want to; sometimes you don’t.  But going on further, we definitely have to figure out a way not to start so slow so that we can carry the team and not have to worry about trying to play from behind.”

KR/PR Josh Cribbs

(On offensive struggles) - “I feel like it’s the natural up’s and down’s for the young offense, trying to get something, you know, trying to turn something out of nothing.  You know?  It’s just a natural course of a young offense.  We’re going back at it, I wouldn’t count us out yet.  You know, we’ve got a lot to offer them, and we’re coming back at it.”

(On frustrations of the loss) - “It should feel pretty dead in here.  That lets you know how much these guys want to win.  There’s a different atmosphere with this clan, you know, laughing and joking and planning ‘what are we going to do tonight?’ But guys are really holding it, those that are accountable for.  Guys as individuals really wanted to make plays for us.  And individually, a lot of guys around here are putting a lot on their shoulders, their own self; that’s a good thing.  And holding themselves accountable. They’re taking this loss to heart.”

(On overcoming being down early in the game) - “It’s early.  It’s about playing football. You know, executing.  You know, our defense is good enough to stop them, they did, we went down and scored a touchdown, they gave us another opportunity and then we keep getting opportunities.  We just have to take advantage of those opportunities and when it is time to score we must score.  Good teams score when given the opportunity, and we did not get that done.”

QB Brandon Weeden

(On the pressure he was under in the pocket and whether or not it was hard finding open receivers)- “They have a great front four. I said that during the week, I think they have guys who can really get after the passer. I think, throughout the game they really started doing some things to those guys up front. I think overall, our guys did a great job. I think our offensive line gave me time to throw, there were some tight coverages; some tight windows to throw into but I think overall my offensive line did great. The touchdown pass to Travis (WR Travis Benjamin), you know they got to him a little late. But, I felt pretty good other then some play action stuff as far as the protection went, all day.”

(On the disappointment level of not being able to build on the offensive success from last week) - “I think, and I’m speaking offensively, we started too slow. I think after a week like we had last week, that’s disappointing. I think that’s the difference in some of these games. I think you just can’t be where we were in the first half, 0-5 or 0-6 on third down and doing some things early and expect to win many games. We’ve got to start faster and that’s on us. That pretty much sums it up. You put yourself in a hole, 14-0; it’s kind of tough to dig it out. Especially against an offense like that, that spreads the ball out and throws it well. It’s tough sledding.”

(On the main problems on the early series where the offense couldn’t convert on third down)- “I think a number of things. One, you have to give them a little bit of credit. They made tackles at the line of scrimmage; they were coming off blocks and doing a good job in the run game. When we beat them with the pass, they did a great job of tackling. So you got to give them credit. They played a hard fought game. They tackled well and did some things there. But I think that, without seeing it, you know a lot has happened since then. I think those are the kind of the things that stood out to me. Like I said, went three-and-out however many times there to start the game. That’s tough.”

(On his opinion of his play)- “If you take away the last throw, I think it was a solid day. You know really, I mean I threw the ball where it needed to go all day. I felt extremely comfortable in the pocket. I felt my reads were really good. I felt like I threw the ball accurately. I felt like I had a good day. I mean we take away that last throw. Me and Ben (TE Ben Watson) were just talking about it, he knew I was coming to him, because the guy dropped out and the guy ran right through it. Neither one of us saw him and he made a great play, but you take away that throw, it was a solid day at work. With all that being said, the most important thing is we didn’t win this game, so to me, I didn’t do enough.”

(On fighting through an 0-3 start)- “You know you just have to keep your head down, don’t get distracted by what’s going on around outside this locker room, and keep grinding and doing what were doing. The simple matter of fact is that we have a short week this week. So even though we lost and it’s a tough pill to swallow. We got to turn around and as crazy as it is we have to turn around to play on Thursday night. This locker room has got a lot of level-headed, good sound quality guys and we’re going to stick together. That’s what you’ve got to do. None of us want to lose, a lot of us have come from other places that haven’t lost a lot of games, we’ve got to continue to fight, and stick together and stay positive. Like I said, it’s a long season. You can’t get distracted by what’s going on around you.”

(On how tough the loss was today)- “It’s a loss. It’s tough to lose and we put so much into it, it’s just frustrating, it’s frustrating, but we have to come back next week, we have a short week, and get ready for Baltimore.”

(On the mood of the team at 0-3)- “It sucks. It sucks to be 0-3. We put a lot in to it and to hear their fans screaming at the end of the game, I don’t like it whatsoever. I don’t like it.”

(On if he saw the empty seats at the end of the game)- “Just to not go out and put your best foot forward collectively. Defensively, we just haven’t been able to play complete games and for us not to be able to play a complete game today and hear those Buffalo fans chanting in our stadium, in our home, I don’t like it whatsoever.”

(On the short week and facing Baltimore on Thursday)- “It stings to lose, but we’ve got a short week and a long season ahead of us. I keep preaching that. You’ve got to move on from it.”

(On if he embraces the fact that they get back on the field Thursday night)- “Yeah, I can’t wait to play. I can’t wait to get this nasty taste out of my mouth. I really can’t. Baltimore, we’re going to go to their place and they’re always ready to play so we better come ready to play or else it’s going to be a dogfight.”

(On the difficulty running and finding creases)- “Well, the Bills have a strong defensive line, hands down. The creases were there, it just takes a little time and the second half was much better than the first. We had a slow start and playing teams like that with a good defensive line and defensive staff, we can’t have misses like that.”

(On being a team leader and the team’s mindset after falling to 0-3)- “We’ve got to keep fighting, you’ve got to keep trying to motivate the team and I’ve got to keep motivating myself. As far me stepping in the role of being a leader, I have to make sure I’m doing everything correctly at all times. And so yeah, we’re 0-3 but we have another game Thursday, so we’ve got to go right back to the drawing board and try and find a way to win, no matter what it takes.”

(On if they would like to get back to the field as soon as possible)- “Most definitely, we’ve got to get on the field as fast as possible, clean up our mess-ups and get to this game. The simple fact is we can’t have a mess-up against a team like Baltimore. They have grown men out there and they’re ready to play so we have to be prepared for anything because they’ll throw everything and anything at us, including blitzes. Their offense, they’ve got a good offensive scheme too. Special teams too, we’ve got to be one unit out there.”

DB Dimitri Patterson

(On Buffalo's offense after RB CJ Spiller’s injury)- “He’s still a very explosive player, but he’s not 100% of their offense. He’s a part of their offense. They have good receivers. Obviously they are a more potent team with him, but they’ve been known to be productive without him too.”

(On what this team needs to be successful)- “The thing about the NFL is, you have to finish. If you look at any NFL game- any game- there are so many highs and lows. There are so many shifts in momentum, so many shifts in motion, it doesn’t really matter, but the team that can consistently finish for the last eight minutes of that game- those are the good teams. That’s really what it comes down to. At the end of the day, most NFL games are very competitive going into eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. But teams that are good every year in and year out or those teams that are successful more than not, those teams finish in the last eight minutes and that’s what we have to learn to do. That’s the key.”

(On his coverage on Buffalo WR Stevie Johnson’s touchdown)- “Oh we all know it. Space. Too much space. We gave him too much space and a guy like that you have to get in his face. I was in his face the entire game. Too much space, he had a little time to throw. Definitely needed that play. That’s a play I wish I could have made, no doubt about it. You know, you play good and one play like that is tough.”

WR Travis Benjamin

(On his first career touchdown)- “It felt great helping my team come back to try to accomplish a win.”

(On getting more confidence and comfortable)- “Yeah. Every week I’m getting more comfortable. The more I get the ball, the more I feel like I’m contributing to the team. I’m just waiting for my name to be called and make that play.”

(On describing the touchdown play)- “It was a call, we knew they were going to be in zone coverage. I knew the technique that he was going to play, I could make a move and get open.”

DB Buster Skrine

(On running three wide outs the whole game)- “Yeah, that’s what they do. They spread everybody out and then they throw it. Then it’s a zone read with the running back.”

(On his pass breakup in the end zone in the third quarter)- “Stevie Johnson gives you a lot of moves at the line. So as soon as he gave me a hard move inside, I already knew he was going to the pylon, so I just took off.”

(On the first TD Buffalo scored)- “It was a good play for our defense we were in, and we all got picked. One of my teammates picked me. I’m not sure who it was.”
