Browns Head Coach Pat Shurmur Press Conference 11-2-12

(Opening Statement)- “I think it was another good practice. The guys played fast and we got a lot done today. One more little deal tomorrow with the mock game and we’ll be ready to go.”

(On if they have enough healthy players at defensive end)- “Yeah, we’ll have a rotation in there. We’ll cover it up the best we can.”

(On if they’ll have to make a roster move at defensive end)- “At this point no. Ronnie Cameron will become active.”

(On if Phil Taylor will be active)- “Yeah, he’s ready to go.”

(On if he said Ronnie Cameron would be active)- “Yes.”

(On if Mohamed Massaquoi is ready to play again)- “He had a good week of practice. We’ll see on Sunday how it plays out. He’s ready to go.”

(On if Massaquoi will be active Sunday)- “He’s ready to go. We’ll see. He’s ready to roll.”

(On the challenge of dividing snaps for receivers with Massaquoi back)- “I think we’ve rotated the receivers throughout the year. When we put the plan together, there are certain things they are in for and certain things they are not. We’re used to doing it. We’ll get him back in there as much as we can if he’s active.”

(On if Brandon Weeden can compete with the other quarterbacks in the division)- “We’ll see. We’re playing this thing out and trying to win games. It’s important that you have a quarterback that you can say is your guy that you can move forward with. We’ve seen the improvement in Brandon that he needs to make. Now, it’s a matter of us playing out the last half of this season and fighting to get victories and fighting to get ourselves in a position to do what we all want to do. That’s where we’re at. That can be said about the quarterback, the receivers, the running backs. We’re just trying to fight and win games.”

(On the difficulty in a quarterback maintaining success from their rookie to sophomore season)- “I think you’ve got to just continue to improve and work. Some of the things around you you can’t control. What you can control is your play and how you lead your team. I think the young quarterbacks that are playing this year, the rookie quarterbacks, I don’t think any of them will play perfect games. I would imagine each coach would say they are seeing improvement from their guys. Each team is different. Each situation is so different that somewhat individual in terms of how the quarterback improves and how the team does. Those are really kind of offseason talks.”

(On Brandon Jackson saying he is dissatisfied with not playing)- “I’m glad that he wants to play. I’m glad that he’s dissatisfied with that and I see that. He’s out here practicing hard every week, who knows whether he’ll be active or not on Sunday. Everybody that’s healthy and ready to play needs to be ready. He’s handled that extremely well. I would anticipate that anybody that’s not active ought to be disappointed that they are not.”

(On if there’s a reason why Greg Little’s reception total is down from last year)- “I think we’ve spread the ball around a little bit. I think that is maybe one reason for it. He’s competing and battling. He’s making the same improvements I see in other players. The big thing is you just keep fighting and as you know there are games when catches come in bunches and you might get a few. Then there are some games where you maybe get one or none and I think it just happens that way.”
