Vermilion, Clearview meet in the Game of the Week

Posted Aug 28, 2014

Cleveland Browns High School Game of the Week returns to action

Vermilion Sailors @ Clearview Clippers

Records: Vermilion 0-0; Clearview 0-0

What: Nonconference game

Date of Game: Friday, Aug. 29

Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Alumni Stadium, 4700 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052

Pregame Notes:

Vermilion (0-0) is led by head coach Robert Duray. Duray has been the head coach for the Sailors since 2012.

Clearview (0-0) is led by head coach Mike Collier. Collier has been the head coach for the Clippers since 2007.

This is the first game of the year for both teams. Vermilion finished the 2013 season 2-8, while Clearview finished 4-6. In a back and forth game, Vermilion edged out Clearview, 27-23, in the first game of last season. Clearview quarterback Roger Engle is entering his fourth season as the starting play caller for the Clippers and will look to connect often with junior wide receiver Lance Billings. The first team All-Ohio wide receiver recorded 57 receptions for 881 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013. Look for Vermilion’s defense to key on Billings, which will present plenty of opportunities for Engle to spread the ball to other receivers.

This neighboring rivalry has all the makings for an exciting season opener. Will Clearview get redemption, or will Vermilion repeat last season’s home opener by defeating Clearview?

Good luck to both teams and stay tuned for a post-game report.
