Wade focuses on giving

Browns defensive back Trevin Wade has focused his efforts on giving this holiday season.

Cleveland Browns rookie defensive back Trevin Wade feels blessed to be an NFL player and wants to pass his blessings along to others during the holiday season.

With Thanksgiving being the kickoff to the holiday season, Wade participated in the Browns’ annual trip to the Cleveland Foodbank on Tuesday, where he boxed food for distribution to more than 600 centers and shelters in the Foodbank’s six-county area.

“It’s just a time to give thanks for all of the things that you’ve been blessed with and everything you’ve been given in life,” Wade said. “Just to see another day, anything to be thankful for, that’s how I see it.”

Wade is no stranger to spreading his good fortune to others. The University of Arizona product and Round Rock, Texas, native volunteered his time to assist with the Special Olympics.

“It’s really important because anytime somebody’s given something, you should always give back, no matter what position you’re in,” Wade said. “If you always give, if you give more than you receive, you’ll be blessed with more things and it’s just a better feeling to give something instead of taking it all. It’s very important to always help people less fortunate than you are because it’s just better that way. More people will be happier and if we help out more people, we’ll all be more successful as a country.”

Wade was one of 19 Browns players to participate in Tuesday’s trip to the Foodbank. Earlier in the season, he took part in the team’s annual Pro vs. G.I. Joe video game competition against military men and women both overseas and in Berea.

Having assisted on community outreach events throughout his first season in Cleveland, Wade is aware that teamwork does not stop when the players leave the field on Sundays or the meeting rooms in Berea.

“It’s really important just to show that we come together for more than just football,” Wade said. “Football’s our job and a game we do, but this is to help feed somebody. On a holiday like this, it’ll be good to receive different foods and help from people just so you can have a good Thanksgiving like everybody else.”
