Breaking down the Browns' 2017 schedule: Weeks 10-17

Posted Apr 20, 2017

What you need to know about Cleveland's opponents

The Browns' 2017 schedule is officially set.

From home-and-homes against the AFC North rivals and trips to London, Los Angeles and Houston, here's a closer look at Cleveland's season.

Week 10: Lions

Nov. 12 (1 p.m) @ Detroit

2016 record: 9-7

The skinny: The Browns travel to Detroit for the first time since 2009 to take on a Lions team that would appear poised for another playoff push. Cleveland last played Detroit in 2013, falling, 31-17, at home.

Week 11: Jaguars

Nov. 19 (1 p.m) @ Home

2016 record: 3-13

The skinny: Jacksonville struggled last season after some thought the Jaguars would contend for a playoff spot. Fourth-year quarterback and former first-round pick Blake Bortles will look to rebound after a shaky third season.

Week 12: Bengals

Nov. 26 (1 p.m) @ Cincinnati

2016 record: 6-9-1

The skinny: Not a lot went right for the Browns against their in-state rival last year. Cincinnati outscored Cleveland, 54-26, in both games and rolled up almost 500 total yards on the Browns defense in Week 7 at Paul Brown Stadium.

Week 13: Chargers

Dec. 3 (4:30 p.m) @ Los Angeles

2016 record: 5-11

The skinny: Cleveland topped the Chargers on Christmas Eve in dramatic fashion to earn their first and only win of the 2016 season. Now, the Browns will head out to StubHub Stadium, as the Chargers recently relocated to Los Angeles.

Week 14: Packers

Dec. 10 (1 p.m) @ Home

2016 record: 10-6

The skinny: The Browns welcome Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to town. Rodgers, one of the league’s best quarterbacks, helped Green Bay advance to the NFC Championship after a midseason lull.

Week 15: Ravens

Dec. 17 (1 p.m) @ Baltimore

2016 record: 8-8

The skinny: The Browns had their chances, and then some, against the Ravens last season. They were unable to protect a 20-0 lead against Baltimore in Week 2 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Later in the season, on Thursday Night Football, Cleveland led 7-6 at halftime but couldn’t keep up with Baltimore in the second half.

Week 16: Bears

Dec. 24 (1 p.m) @ Chicago

2016 record: 3-13

The skinny: These two teams will also meet in the preseason. The Bears, who parted ways with veteran quarterback Jay Cutler, enter a new era with Mike Glennon, whom Chicago signed in free agency.

Week 17: Steelers

Dec. 31 (1 p.m) @ Pittsburgh

2016 record: 11-5

The skinny: Cleveland’s overtime loss to the Steelers in its regular-season finale in some ways embodied a 1-15 season that saw a young team learn on the fly. The Browns played well enough to win the game but let turnovers and costly mental errors ultimately undo them.
