Browns Community Highlights - December 15

Posted Dec 15, 2017

The Cleveland Browns are committed to the community. Through First and Ten, the Dawg Pound is encouraged to share what they are doing to give back. Get inspired and check out what these fans are doing to help their community:
How do you give back?

Name: Matthew Wells
Hometown: Avon, OH
How they give back:
Matthew is a volunteer for Youth Challenge and gives back by helping out the Youth Challenge organization with whatever they need. Matthew originally heard about this great organization from an Ohio State Administrator. He says that the best part about working with this non-profit is “everyone that is involved with Youth Challenge is so nice, caring, and genuine. I feel so welcomed by everyone and I feel that I can be myself.” In addition to helping out at Youth Challenge, Matthew also has volunteered at food drives, soup kitchens and community leaf rakings.

Name: Mariam Tadross
Hometown: Westlake, OH
How they give back:
Mariam has been volunteering with Youth Challenge since the Fall of 2014. She initially got involved with this organization when a friend of hers mentioned it to her. After helping out at a couple events, Mariam decided that she wanted to get more involved and hasn’t looked back since. Mariam says, “The best part of helping this nonprofit is knowing that everything that I do will be for a better future for my friends at Youth Challenge.”

Name: Katrina Frei-Herman
Hometown: Twinsburg, OH
How they give back:
Katrina has been with Youth Challenge for three years now and initially got involved when her school partnered up with them. Katrina says that volunteering at Youth Challenge taught her to be humble. She now approaches situations more thoughtfully and doesn’t just rely on “how can I help them, but instead what can I learn from them.”  In addition to volunteering at Youth Challenge, she also helps at her local church and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

Name: Hannah Ziton
Hometown: North Royalton, OH
How they give back:
Hannah wanted to get more involved in the community so she looked up places in Cleveland that offered Paralympic Sports because they fascinate her and stumbled across Youth Challenge. Hannah was so impressed by the organization and everything it offered that she signed up immediately to become a volunteer in the Spring of 2015. Hannah continues to volunteer with Youth Challenge because she says, “It has brought me more joy than any other team or club or organization I have ever belonged to.”

Name: Adam Phillips
Hometown: Parma, OH
How they give back:
Adam began volunteering with Youth Challenge back in 2015. He initially got started with them when his friend, a participant, asked him to come along. He has been helping them ever since and says the best part about it is making new friends. In addition to making new friends, Adam says, “It has helped me step out of my comfort zone, and try new things.”

The Browns are dedicated to #give10 through the team’s First and Ten initiative. Launched in June 2014, the Cleveland Browns First and Ten campaign is the team’s community program, established to inspire fans to volunteer in and help their communities throughout the world by volunteering for 10 hours each year. Since its inception, Browns fans have committed to volunteering more than 1.5 million hours to impact their communities by pledging to #give10. Through First and Ten, the Browns are the only NFL club to promote a long-term volunteering program that unifies the team and its entire fan base, with the goal of impacting every individual’s city across the globe, as well as the franchise’s local community. All Browns fans are encouraged to join the volunteering effort by signing the First and Ten pledge on the team’s website and by sharing their stories with #give10
