Update on Browns DL Myles Garrett

Posted Jun 17, 2017

Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick, expected to be ready for training camp

Rookie defensive end Myles Garrett is expected to be ready for training camp after being diagnosed with a lateral foot sprain.

Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, suffered the injury Thursday toward the end of practice. He was evaluated by Browns head team physician, Dr. James Voos of University Hospitals and foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina.

This news comes as the Browns break for summer following an offseason that watched them tap Garrett and two more first-round picks in safety Jabrill Peppers and tight end David Njoku,

Garrett, who totaled 31 sacks in three years at Texas A&M, is expected to blossom into something of a cornerstone player for Cleveland. Since joining the team, he had quickly made a strong impression on his vetearn teammates with his humility and work ethic.

“I’m just impressed with his demeanor and his willingness to learn, his humbleness, but also you see that fire burning inside him to be great,” left tackle and 10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas said last month. “And I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players.”

“Myles is a humble guy. Whenever you have a guy that just shows out on the field, he doesn't do too much off the field as far as being flashy or having a big ego,” linebacker Christian Kirksey said. “That definitely shows his character and I just can’t wait to see him strap up and get in those pads.”

Garrett joins a defensive line that includes Desmond Bryant, Danny Shelton, Jamie Meder Emmanuel Ogbah, Carl Nassib, and rookies Larry Ogunjobi and Caleb Brantley.

The Browns open the 2017 season against Pittsburgh Sept. 10 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
