In that stop with the Seahawks, Gilbertson served in several capacities, including offensive consultant (2005), assistant offensive line coach (2006-07) and wide receivers coach (2008).
Gilbertson has spent 26 years as a coach on the collegiate level, including nine as a head coach, consisting of stints at Idaho (1986-88), Cal-Berkeley (1992-95) and Washington (2003-04). During that time his teams posted a composite record of 55-51.
Gilbertson began his coaching career by serving as a graduate assistant at Idaho State (1971-74), Western Washington (1975) and Washington (1976). He has been a member of the staffs at Utah State (1977-81), Idaho (1982) and Washington (1989-91, 1999-2002). He previously coached professionally with the Seahawks from 1996-98 and the Los Angeles Express of the USFL from 1983-85.
Gilbertson played football at Central Washington, Columbia Basin Junior College and Hawaii, before returning to Central Washington, where he earned his degree in social sciences in 1971.
A native of Snohomish, Wash., Gilbertson and his wife, Barbara, have three children Ann, Kristin and David.
