Biography

Daron Roberts was named the Browns’ Defensive Quality Control coach on January 29, 2013.

Roberts spent the past two seasons at West Virginia University, first coaching the wide receivers/special teams returners (2011) and then the cornerbacks (2012). In 2011, wide receiver Tavon Austin was named the Big East Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and was tabbed a third team All-American by the Associated Press. Prior to his time at West Virginia, Roberts spent two seasons (2009-10) as the Detroit Lions’ assistant secondary coach. In 2009, the Lions finished fifth in the NFL with 21 interceptions.

Prior to Detroit, Roberts spent two seasons (2007-08) with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a volunteer coach in 2007 and was hired as defensive quality control assistant in 2008. While in Kansas City, he worked with a unit that ranked fifth in the league for pass defense in 2007, allowing 188.9 passing yards per game. In 2007, he also worked as an assistant coach at Bishop Miege High School in Kansas City.

A native of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Roberts attended the University of Texas and served as the Student Body President his senior year. He earned a Master of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and holds a law degree from Harvard Law School. Roberts and his wife, Hilary, have one son, Dylan and a daughter, Sydney.
