Biography

Eric Sanders was named defensive quality control coach on Feb. 8, 2016. In 2011, he was part of Head Coach Hue Jackson’s staff in Oakland.

Last season, Sanders assisted with a Browns defense that saw Joe Schobert become the first Browns linebacker named to the Pro Bowl in 16 years. Schobert tied for first in the NFL with 144 tackles. Defensive lineman Myles Garrett, the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, led the Browns with seven sacks, tied for second among all NFL rookies and third-most by a Browns rookie.

In 2016, Christian Kirksey finish third in the NFL with 148 tackles. Rookie Emmanuel Ogbah recorded a team-best 5.5 sacks, tied for the fourth-most by a Browns rookie.

Sanders spent 2015 as a defensive assistant at Stanford. He helped the school to a 12-2 record, including a 45-16 victory in the Rose Bowl.

Prior to Stanford, Sanders spent five seasons (2010-14) with the Raiders as a quality control coach, initially with the offense for two seasons and later the defense. He worked primarily with the tight ends before the defensive line. In 2010, tight end Zach Miller was selected to his first career Pro Bowl. 

Sanders spent two seasons (2008-09) coaching the linebackers at UC Davis and one season (2006) as assistant offensive line/tight ends coach. He also was a graduate assistant at Utah State in 2007.

He earned a degree in psychology from UC Davis, while working as the team’s video coordinator and assisting with the defensive line as an undergraduate.
