Rick Lyle

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

Rick Lyle was named assistant strength and conditioning coach by the Browns on January 22, 2009. He joins the club after spending the last three seasons with the New York Jets as an assistant strength and conditioning coach/nutrition coordinator.

Lyle was a four-year letterman at the University of Missouri (1990-93), where he starred as a defensive lineman, netting 18 career sacks, including a team-high eight as a senior. He graduated from Missouri with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism. At Missouri, he was an All-America performer in the shot put and also threw the discus.

Lyle was born in Monroe, La., and raised in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Hickman Hills (Mo.) High School where he starred in football, track and wrestling. He was also a two-time state champion in the shot put. Lyle and his wife, Laura, have two daughters, Haley and Audrey.

Coaching Background:

2006-08 New York Jets, assistant strength and conditioning coach

This will be Lyle’s second stint with the Browns, with his first having occurred as a player. His NFL career started with the club in 1994 as an undrafted college free agent, and he spent two years with the team before it moved to Baltimore. Lyle’s 10 NFL seasons consisted of stops with Cleveland (1994-95), Baltimore (1996), the Jets (1997-2001) and New England (2002-03). He registered 250 tackles and 11 sacks in 113 career contests, and was a member of the New England Patriots Super Bowl championship squad in 2003.
