Rich Long
College Area Scout
Rich Long is beginning his seventh season with the Browns and his first in the position of College Area Scout – East. Long previously served the role of Research and Development Scout, where he managed information from the scouting staff on a year-round basis in preparation for the NFL Draft, served as a liaison between the scouting and personnel staff, evaluated players and worked on special projects at the direction of Phil Savage.
Prior to joining the Browns, Long was a partner for two years (2001-2002) with the law firm Hoffman Long LLP in Harrisburg, Pa., and also served four years (1997-2000) as a deputy district attorney in Harrisburg. Long graduated with his law degree from the University of Miami (Fla.) in 1996, and his undergraduate degree in political science from Gettysburg College (Pa.) in 1989. Long played four years of football at Gettysburg as a kicker and punter. In 1987, he was selected first-team All-Centennial Conference and first-team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference. In 1993, he served as an assistant coach at Dickinson College (Pa.).
Long is a Major in the United States Army Reserve and served a nine-month tour of duty in Baghdad, Iraq (2005-06), where he served with the Multi-National Security Transition Command – Iraq. Long is originally from Harrisburg, Pa. He is married to the former Michelle Yurich. The couple resides in Middleburg Heights, Ohio and are expecting their first child this summer.
