James Kirkland is in his fifth season with the Browns and is entering his second season as Assistant Director, Pro Personnel. Kirkland spent the previous two seasons (2005-06) as an area scout. Before coming to Cleveland, Kirkland spent the previous three months as a recruiting intern at Duke, which came following a season-long tenure with the Atlanta Falcons. As a Falcons’ volunteer scouting intern, he assisted with scouting of the defensive line and defensive backs.
Kirkland earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Duke and was a four-year letterman as a defensive end on the Blue Devil football squad, where he recorded 13 career sacks. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and accounting from Georgia Tech. Kirkland and his fiancee, Kim, have a daughter, Janay.
