Jake Hallum
Senior Scout
Jake Hallum is in his fourth season with the Browns as a senior college scout and has been evaluating college talent for more that three decades. Prior to joining the Browns, Hallum served five seasons as a college scout with the New England Patriots, primarily in the Midwest and Southeast.
Hallum provided the Philadelphia Eagles with five seasons (1995-99) as a college scout. His experience at the college level began as the head coach at Morehead State in 1968. After four seasons (1968-71), Hallum moved to the University of Maryland, where he coached the offensive line from 1972 to 1981. In 1982, he began an eight-year assignment as an assistant at Kentucky.
In 1990, he accepted the position as offensive line and tight ends coach at Arizona State. Following the 1991 season, he left the coaching ranks, completing a 24-year college coaching career. In 1992, he began his scouting career as a regional scout for National Football Scouting, and scouted Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi. Hallum held the position with National Scouting for two seasons prior to joining the Eagles, and with Philadelphia, he scouted all areas of the United States.
Hallum was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Liberty, S.C. He played linebacker and guard at Newberry College (1957-60) and later earned his master’s degree from Murray State in 1965. He coached high school football at his alma mater, Pickens (S.C.) High (1960-62), later making stops at Hopkinsville (Ky.) High (1962-66) and Paul Blazer High in Ashland, Ky. (1966-67), winning the state AAA championship at Hopkinsville High and Paul Blazer High School.
Jake and his wife, Mable, have two sons, Todd and Bart. He and his wife reside in Lexington, Ky.
