Mitchell was blessed with exceptional speed, balance and faking ability. He split his career as a Browns' halfback and a Redskins' flanker. Mitchell was noted in his career for his spectacular, long-distance scoring plays. He amassed 14,078 combined net yards, scored 91 touchdowns, caught 521 passes and had eight kick returns for touchdowns. Mitchell topped all NFL receivers in 1962. He surpassed 50 catches in six different years. He was All-NFL twice. Mitchell played in four Pro Bowls. Mitchell still holds the Browns' career record for kickoff returns for touchdowns with three. He also holds the team's best rookie rushing average (13.36 in 1958). He was born on June 6, 1935 in Hot Springs, Ark.
