Originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, Groves has appeared in 79 games with 29 starts, registering 152 tackles and 6.5 sacks during his five-year NFL career with the Jaguars (2008-09), Oakland Raiders (2010-11) and Arizona Cardinals (2012).

In 2012, he saw action in all 16 contests with seven starts, setting career-highs in tackles (45) and sacks (4) as the Cardinals led the NFL in passer rating allowed (71.2) and interception percentage (4.4%). Arizona’s defense also ranked second in the NFL in interceptions (22) and third-down efficiency (32.9%), third in red zone defense (44.4%) and fourth in takeaways (33). He also recorded seven quarterback hits last year. Groves has totaled 28 career special teams tackles, one special teams fumble recovery and one blocked punt. He set a career-high with 11 special teams tackles in 2009. Last season, he recorded seven special teams tackles and a blocked punt.

A four-year letterman at Auburn University (2004-07), Groves saw action in 49 games with 23 starts, recording 117 tackles, 26 sacks and eight forced fumbles. As a senior, he was one of 10 finalists for the Awards and Recognition Association (ARA) Sportsmanship Award, given annually to one NCAA Division I football player who best personifies the spirit of sportsmanship. As a junior, he earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors after registering 35 tackles, 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Born on July 5, 1984, the 6-3, 265-pound Groves is a native of Greenville, Mississippi, where he attended Greenville-Westin (Miss.) High School. He played both defensive line and tight end in high school, while also lettering in basketball and track and field. He was also a member of the powerlifting team. His wife, Treska, was a member of Auburn’s track and field team.
