Biography

Trufant is 5-7, 170 pounds and is officially in his fourth NFL season out of Eastern Washington. Originally signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent, Trufant has appeared in 39 career games, all with the Jets, with one start. A special-teams standout, Trufant has registered 34 special-teams tackles, including 13 last season. He has also added 18 career tackles on defense and two passes defensed.
He spent the first 17 weeks of the 2010 season on the Jets’ practice squad before appearing in the season finale. He also saw action in 13 games in 2011 and recorded 12 special-teams tackles. He appeared in nine games in 2012, and played in all 16 contests last year.
 
Trufant spent the 2009-10 seasons with the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives, where he led the team to the UFL championship both seasons and earned 2010 UFL Defensive Player of the Year. He also played in the Arena League from 2006-09.
 
A first-team All-Big Sky selection at Eastern Washington, Trufant recorded 11 career interceptions. A native of Tacoma, Wash., Trufant attended Wilson High School.
 
His brother, Marcus, was Seattle’s first-round pick in 2003, and his other brother, Desmond, was a first-round selection by Atlanta in 2013.
