Browns staff volunteer through Hometown Huddle Project

One of the pillars of Browns Give Back is education and we have partnered with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District through the "Get 2 School, You Can Make It!" attendance campaign over the past few years. The Cleveland Browns and the district are jointly connected with eliminating obstacles that are keeping kids from not attending school.

Browns staff members built bicycles for 100 students, grades 3-6 to help the attendance campaign. This week, with an extension of Summer Blitz, the Content and Production department volunteered to #give10. The department "huddled" up by volunteering their time to package equipment for bikes. This included both a helmet, and a lock for each bike distributed. By providing bikes, this supplies transportation for the districts youth along with prioritizing safety with a helmet and lock.

Hometown Huddle is a national event where NFL teams partner with local organizations and schools on community service projects. This year the hometown huddle project tied in well with getting kids active through riding bikes as a means of transportation to school so they can get an education.

Hometown Huddles are all about volunteering and making the community a better place. The Cleveland Browns focus on that through the First and Ten platform encouraging players, coaches, staff and fans to volunteer 10 hours of their time to help the community and inspire others.

As a part of the Browns Give Back mission, education plays an important role in a child's likelihood in graduating and a potential future. Throughout the years, studies proven that specifically for CMSD students, missing 10 days of school shows a contrary impact on testing and graduation rates. The "Get 2 School" campaign has made a significant impact the past three years and has resulted in more than 3,200 students to be on track with education and graduation.

Browns Give Back works to increase awareness and encourage students and families to make education a priority through:

  • Using attendance data to reach at-risk students
  • Incentivizing and rewarding students with Browns player visits, tickets and autographed memorabilia
  • Reward lunches, pop-up parties and field trips
  • Billboards, yard signs and calls to families

Browns Give Back takes the opportunity to empower others throughout Northeast Ohio to use 'giving' efforts for development and success of youth and individuals. Empowering youth to obtain and education and contribute to engaging with their community is the ultimate goal.

The Hometown Huddle was an exciting opportunity for the content and production team to join in to provide hands-on support to CMSD as part of the Browns Give Back mission, because as we know, they are often sharing the community impact through visual storytelling from behind the lens.
