By the Numbers: Browns ride explosive first half to win in Detroit

DETROIT — Breaking down a 35-17 win over the Lions…

138 — Baker Mayfield came out swinging in his first NFL start. The Browns rookie quarterback completed 9-of-16 throws for 138 yards and helped his team get out to a big lead early. Mayfield was the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.

25 — Behind Mayfield and a stingy defensive effort, the Browns built a 25-0 lead at halftime.

64 — The subject of a "Hard Knocks" feature, veteran defensive end Nate Orchard returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown shortly before halftime. Orchard jumped a pass by Lions backup quarterback Matt Cassel with 28 seconds to play in the second quarter and ran it back untouched.

111 — Second-year running back Matthew Dayes finished with 111 all-purpose yards, including eight carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps Dayes' best play of the night came on a 42-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. He left in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. A seventh-round pick out of N.C. State, Dayes is fighting for a roster spot in a running backs room that includes Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb.

108 — The Browns held the Lions to 108 yards in the first half, including just 2 on the ground.

The Cleveland Browns play the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

45 — Kicker Zane Gonzalez knocked down a pair of field goals, including a 45-yarder in the third quarter. Gonzalez, who enters his second season with the team, made 15-of-20 attempts as a rookie in 2017. He hasn't missed in the preseason, driving home a 54-yarder against the Eagles last week.

22 — Rookie quarterback and "Hard Knocks" favorite Brogan "BRObie" Roback tossed his first NFL touchdown pass, a 22-yard strike to receiver Blake Jackson. It capped a nine-play, 90-yard drive. Roback, the Toledo native and former Eastern Michigan standout, signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent this spring.

48 — Journeyman tight end Devon Cajuste led the Browns with two catches for 48 yards. Cajuste was featured earlier this month in a "Hard Knocks" segment spotlighting a heartwarming bond between him and his father, Gregory. Much like Orchard, Cajuste is also hoping to make the active roster.

14 — The Browns finished with 14 penalties Thursday, a dynamic that head coach Hue Jackson has said needs to improve before the regular season.

75 — Running back Dontrell Hilliard finished with 75 all-purpose as yards as he competes for a spot on the active roster
