In the week six High School Game of the Week presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) matchup the Strongsville Mustangs will host the Medina Battling Bees. As we close in on the end of the regular season in high school football, both Strongsville and Medina find themselves in must-win games through the rest of the season. Medina enters this week with a 2-4 record while Strongsville goes into week seven with a 3-3 record. To add to the allure and atmosphere, this Friday night in Strongsville will be the “Cancer Awareness Game” as well as homecoming for the Mustangs.
The Battling Bees of Medina started out the 2018 season 2-0, but have struggled since. The Bees are a part of one of the strongest conferences in the state, the Greater Cleveland Conference. The conference has three teams that are in the top eight of the Ohio state power rankings including #2 Mentor and #3 Solon. Medina’s 2-4 record does not do this team justice. They have shown that they are capable of competing with some of the best. They are led by senior quarterback Ryan Fischer who is a transfer from Saint Vincent Saint Mary’s. Fischer and the Battling Bees know that the environment will be hostile this Friday night when they travel to Strongsville, but the team will be looking to stay poised as they face a talented Mustangs team.
The Mustangs have faced similar adversity the past three weeks by losing their past three contests in conference play. However, this week stakes will be high for the Mustangs as they take on the Battling Bees in another conference game. Coach Louis Cirino looks to get his team back on track and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Mustangs will have to win at least three of their next four games to have a chance to make the playoffs this season.
In 2017, Strongsville defeated Medina 21-7. The Mustangs finished conference play 4-3 as the Battling Bees finished 3-4 last season.
Good luck to both teams and stay tuned for a post-game report.
