The Cleveland Browns will host their annual Browns Give Back First and Ten Food Drive, benefitting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, prior to Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Volunteers from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank will begin collecting donations outside of FirstEnergy Stadium when gates open at 11 a.m.
Sugardale, the official hot dog of the Cleveland Browns, is once again championing the community initiative as the presenting partner of the Browns Give Back First and Ten Food Drive. As part of its commitment to the event and Northeast Ohio, Sugardale donated $10,000 worth of hams (approximately 1,300) to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank last week to kick off Sunday’s food drive.
Through the generosity of Browns fans, the Browns Give Back First and Ten Food Drive, presented by Sugardale, has helped provide approximately 175,000 meals to Northeast Ohio families in need during the past seven years. Through Taste of the Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium – the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s major annual fundraiser, in partnership with the Browns – the partnership has also helped raise more than $2.8 million to benefit the local community since the event began 21 years ago.
Sugardale, with the assistance of Pro Bowl G Joel Bitonio, also presented a $5,000 donation to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank at the Browns facility in May, resulting in the allocation of 20,000 nutritious meals in the local community.
This year’s Browns Give Back First and Ten Food Drive offers fans the opportunity to support the holiday efforts of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank leading into the 2019 winter months. Prior to entering the stadium, fans with or without tickets are encouraged to drop off non-perishable canned food items – including the Super Six of cereal, vegetables, soup, beef stew, peanut butter and tuna fish – to assist local families in need during the holiday season. Monetary contributions will also be accepted, with each dollar donated being enough to provide four nutritious meals to individuals in the Greater Cleveland area.
Fans who make a donation will receive an official orange #give10 wristband as part of the First and Ten volunteering movement.
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, Browns players, alumni and staff and the Browns Women Organization will #give10at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank by preparing Thanksgiving meals and packaging food items to be sent to local shelters, food pantries and food sites throughout Northeast Ohio. The gathering is one of many jointly hosted events by the Browns and Greater Cleveland Food Bank, a community partner of the team’s signature First and Ten volunteering movement, as the groups help fight hunger and ensure families have access to nutritious meals throughout the year, particularly during high times of need like the winter holidays.

Throughout the past five years, more than 120,000 meals have been made available to families in Northeast Ohio thanks to the Browns First and Ten Food Drive alone.
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is a First and Ten community partner that distributes food to more than 940 local partner agencies and programs annually. They also have hot meal programs, shelters, mobile pantries, programs for the elderly and SNAP outreach efforts. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank seeks to bridge the meal gap, connecting individuals with the nutritious meals they need to succeed. Throughout Northeast Ohio, one in six people is food insecure – meaning they may not know where their next meal will come from.
Each year, the Browns and Greater Cleveland Food Bank also come together to put on Taste of the Browns, an event featuring Cleveland’s top chefs that raises money and awareness to combat hunger in the local community. In September, the 21st Annual Taste of the Browns was co-chaired by Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry and alumni Josh Cribbs and raised enough money to provide nearly 1,000,000 meals to those in need in the Greater Cleveland community.
