Clyde Simmons was named defensive line coach on Jan. 19, 2017. He has been an NFL coach for seven seasons following a 15-year NFL playing career.

Simmons helped develop Myles Garrett, the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Garrett led the Browns with seven sacks, tied for second among all NFL rookies and third-most by a Browns rookie. Garrett joined Oakland defensive tackle Tommy Kelly (2004) and Cleveland linebacker Barkevious Mingo (2013) as the only NFL players since 2004 to record at least one sack in each of their first three NFL games. In his first game, Garrett recorded a sack on his first NFL play and became the only No. 1 overall pick to record multiple sacks in his NFL debut.
