Browns vs. Redskins: Player quotes

WR Brian Hartline

On being in front of Cleveland's fans for the first time:

"It was special. I think it is special for the 2015 Browns, and on a personal note, it was special for me. It was a great honor and privilege to be out here in front of these fans. You can feel the passion. We are excited for this year."

On the first scoring drive:

"It was a lot of fun. (QB) Josh (McCown) was moving around. We were getting the ball and running the ball well. We were dinking and dunking, we were getting some first downs and to come away with points is always a good drive so it was a good start for us."

LB Paul Kruger

On how he feels to be back in FirstEnergy Stadium:

"It's good. It feels good to be in front of a home crowd. Really just nice to feel the tempo of the game again and have a live situation. A lot of learning, for sure."

On takeaways for the defense:

"I think we had a lot of good plays. It's good for guys to experience success. More so, I think we have a lot to clean up. I think we came out strong. We just let a couple plays get away from us."

DB Tramon Williams

On his first time playing for the Browns in Cleveland:

"It was awesome. Actually, I felt right at home, wasn't nervous or anything so that's a good sign."

On what the defense did well:

"I thought we did a good job of getting off the field. A lot of times on third down if you can't get off the field, that's when guys score touchdowns. I thought we did a good job getting off the field. I thought we showed a lot of good things just as a whole on defense. I'm excited about it. We just have to keep getting better."

WR Travis Benjamin

On drawing a pass interference call in the first quarter:

"Once I saw the ball in the air and I was going to get it, he just cut me off and I knew that it was a catchable. I knew once he cut me off, he grabbed me"

On being wide open on first touchdown catch:

"Not necessarily. I knew the play was designed to go left. Once I went right and I saw (QB) Josh (McCown) coming right toward me, I just put one hand in the air and he found me."

On if McCown's playmaking ability was surprising:

"Not at all, not at all. I saw last year when we played Tampa. We saw it on film that he did have great scrambling ability. He's not the fastest guy, but he can move defenders away from him."

On what an early score does for the team:

"It was great for us. A few knots in it, but with the run, the pass, completing third down, converting first down, it was just a great feeling for us on offense."

On the scoring drive:

"It went very smooth. The play call, the formation, the under center changes and getting it to the receivers – me (WR Brian) Hartline, Gabe (WR Taylor Gabriel) – it didn't matter who was on the field tonight. Josh found the guys to get open tonight."

On whether his speed feels back to normal:

"It's way better than last year from the standpoint that I can go full speed, all game, without feeling soreness and without having the effects of getting ice. It's going to be a great year for me."

OL Cameron Erving

On finding out he was starting at LT:

"Just a couple of days ago. It felt good. I just wanted to go out there and just do the best I could."

On changing positions:

"I keep an open mind to a lot of things. I feel like it's making me a better player, being able to change my mindset from being a right guard to a left tackle. It's been pretty good. I haven't really had any big setbacks as far as going and doing or as far as knowing what's going on, but I feel like I've done a pretty good job."

On his game with the Browns:

"It felt good. I can kind of relate it back to when I was in college, when you play that first game, no matter who it is. It was fun. I had a great time. It's been something that I've dreamed of for a long time so just being able to suit up in a Browns uniform, it's like a dream come true."

On the opening drive:

"It's always good to come out and make a statement coming into a game, especially coming out and setting the tone. That was the biggest thing we wanted to do: come out and run the ball, come out and establish the line of scrimmage. Just have fun playing ball. At the end of the day, it's a kid's game, and we just go out here and play it because we love it."

On his playing time:

"I didn't really know how much I was going to play so I just had my mind ready to do it all."
