Browns offensive lineman Donald Stephenson has been suspended without pay for two games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced Friday.
Stephenson, who signed with Cleveland as a free agent in March, is eligible to return to the team's active roster after its Sept. 16 game at New Orleans. He can participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.
Stephenson did not participate in the team's mandatory veteran minicamp this past week.
An eight-year veteran, he was added by the Browns to provide depth at left tackle. He spent the past two years with the Denver Broncos, starting seven games last season. Stephenson has played in 80 career games, making 37 starts.
Cleveland finished offseason workouts this week and will reconvene for training camp in late July.
